Introduction
The Barn in Tekapo is a bespoke designed family house situated
minutes walk from Tekapo township in the Lochinver Run subdivision,
and within easy driving distance of all the main tourist hot
spots in the Mackenzie basin. Finished in July 2007 The Barn
offers sleeping for up to 9 people in 3 bedrooms over 2 floors.
There are two queen sized bedrooms (one on each level) and
4 single beds and a portacot so you can have flexibility about
which room you sleep your baby. It is ideal for that family
break away from the city. It is well appointed and should
suit your every need weather you want to enjoy the alpine
adventure, the aquatic beauty of Lake Tekapo, or merely soak
up the summer sun and relax.
About
Tekapo
Lake Tekapo - from the Maori words Taka (sleeping mat) and
Po (night) - is on the middle of the South island of New Zealand,
about 2.5 hours drive from Christchurch. It is on the inland
scenic route through to Mount Cook, Wanaka, and Queenstown.
Tekapo township is at 710 metres (2300 feet) above sea level
and sits at the edge of a beautiful turquoise mountain lake
surrounded by snow capped mountains. The setting is complete
with rugged terrain covered in Grassland Tussock.
Lake
Tekapo's location means that it enjoys an almost unique microclimate.
It has some of New Zealand's highest sunshine hours and can
be very warm in the summer, but also enjoys great snow and
colder climes in the winter. There's plenty to do in Tekapo,
as long as you're not coming for the clubs and night life.
There are several restaurants (Pizza, Japanese, Chinese, and
a few Cafes) and the local pub. And if you enjoy the great
outdoors, climbing, snow skiing, water activities, mountain
biking, ice skating and mountain walks, then you'll be astounded.
The
Barn Features
The Barn is a fully equipped holiday bach over 2 floors. On
the ground floor is one large bedroom with a shower room,
separate toilet laundry and then a large open plan living
room and kitchen area. The kitchen has all the mod cons and
the open plan living area features a 42 inch flatscreen TV
with Freeview, DVD with surround sound, a log fire with stunning
mountain and lake views.
Upstairs
there is a further guest bedroom, a bunkroom with 4 single
beds, and an upstairs toilet. The bunkroom is ideal for children
as it gives them somewhere to play safely away from their
parents who can sit downstairs and relax. There is also a
portacot that you can put up anywhere you wish.
There
are two outdoor paved entertainment areas (with a gas BBQ)
facing the lake, it is fully landscaped with a large flat
lawn area accesable from all ground floor areas - ideal for
the kids to run around on. The Barn is heated via a wood burner,
under floor heating, and heat pumps upstairs and downstairs.
There is plenty of both off and on street parking with a large
garage that guests can have access to for parking and storage
of ski's bikes and so on.
